It would be a great miss not to start this section off with transportation, The record Flight To Australia by Sir Alan Cobham, the first flight across the North Pole the first being on May the 9th 1926 by Lieutenenant Richard E. Bird the second by Roald Admunsen who crossed the pole in an Airship.

In 1927 the first solo flight across the Atlantic was undertaken by Charles Lindeburgh this was unfortunately accompanied by the kidnapping case of the Lindebergh baby who was never recovered.

In the UK the railway centenary held in Darlington was attracting visitors from all over the world and in 1926 one of the biggest breakdowns in the work history of the United Kingdom took place resulting in the General Strike.


Sir Alan Cobham arrivingon the Thames at Westminster after a record flight to Australia covering 26,000 miles in 320 flying hours. He was later to be greeted at the palace.
