Welcome To The Ben Reynoldson Tribute
1920-1925

To The left and right a brief glimpse into the changing fashions from 1918 to the middle of the 1920s a complete change occurred, for the first time legs came into fashion as skirts shortened. It has often been said that when the hem line skirt goes up, there is a renewed confidence in the markets. Interesting since the 1920s saw one of the biggest recessions ever to hit the world.

However with these tassled skirts came the lively dances and the Origins of Jazz and dance under the Vocalion Label. "The Charleston" became an international hit

Other lively and popular songs included Carolina Moon,
Somebody Stole My Gal, Miss Annebel Lee, Ida Sweet As Apple Cider,
Ain't She Sweet and others.

The 1920 - 1925 period was not only known for it's jollity, on November 11th 1920 two very significant ceromonies took place, the unveiling by the King of the Permanent Cenotaph, in commemeration for those who had lost their lives in the Great War of 1914 - 1918.

The other event which took place was the burial (pictured left) of the "unknown soldier". Neither known by name nor rank. This also became a permanent commemeration, this time not for those heroes who had fought and lost their lives, but those who would never come home their whereabouts unknown, or their bodies simply unidentifiable.

As the gun carriage (left) passed the Cenotaph, King George place a wreath with these words.

"In proud memory of those warriors who died unknown
in the Great War. Unknown and yet well known; as dying, and behold they live.

George R.I."
